Holidays Won’t Save Retailers – WSJ


It is looking as if it is going to be a bad holiday shopping season for retailers. The question is whether it will be as bad as investors think.

The Commerce Department on Friday reported that retail sales were flat in September from August, which means they moved lower in real, or inflation-adjusted, terms. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had expected to see a seasonally adjusted gain of 0.3%.
